Lecture-Concert with Dr. Asnat Goldfarb-Arzuan and tenor Assaf Kacholi
A fascinating, enriching, and moving musical journey tracing the path of Greek music into the heart of Israeli culture, from the Jaffa clubs of the 1960s through Yehuda Poliker in the 1990s to the present day. For the first time in the ensemble’s series, the concert will also feature a lecture by musicologist Dr. Asnat Goldfarb-Arzuan, a researcher of Israeli song.
In this lecture-concert, we will hear how the classics of great Greek composers reached Israel, including: Manos Hadjidakis, Mikis Theodorakis, Aris San, George Dalaras, and others.
We will examine the translated lyrics and new lyrics written for these melodies, and more.
Ensemble Mezzo combines its expertise in early music with Greek music. This unique blend stems from the homeland of the ensemble’s founder and recorder player, Doret Florentin. The ensemble will be joined by tenor singer Assaf Kacholi, who has performed with Greek singer Maria Farantouri.
