The Maureen Nehedar Ensemble, led by the wondrous singer, paytanit (liturgical vocalist), and creator Maureen Nehedar, launches a festive and moving new performance at Studio Annette. Maureen and the ensemble will perform a selection of highlights from her five albums released over the past decade, presented in new and groundbreaking arrangements.
The combination of virtuosic playing that bridges East and West, paired with Maureen’s hypnotic voice, creates a one-of-a-kind and unforgettable experience. The performance traces a spectrum of emotions and rhythms, driven by Maureen’s enchanting stage charisma and soul-stirring melodies. The program features a blend of ancient piyutim (liturgical poems) from the Persian Jewish tradition rescued from oblivion, Persian folk songs, and Iranian pop and rock from the “Golden Age” (the 1950s through the 1970s). Maureen is a prominent figure in the Israeli world music scene and in the renewal of Jewish music, performing at festivals in Israel and across the globe.
