The opening concert of the series presents the Israeli and Jewish landscape in all its cultural diversity, from Mendelssohn to Naomi Shemer. It will explore the connections between Jewish and Israeli music throughout history.
The program includes: a Yemenite fantasy inspired by the songs of Jewish women who immigrated from Yemen; the kibbutz landscape reflected in Hebrew song and classical music; liturgical poetry (piyyutim) and the musical blend of Sephardi and Ashkenazi traditions; and special arrangements written for the ensemble, drawing from the world of the Jewish shtetl and Hebrew song.
