Marc-Antoine Charpentier – Cupido Perfido (The Treacherous Cupid) – Pastoraletta (miniature opera)

José António Carlos de Seixas – Sonatas for solo harpsichord

François Couperin – La Piémontaise (from Les Nations, 1726): French Suite

Marc-Antoine Charpentier – Amor Vince Ogni Cosa (Love Conquers All) – Pastoraletta (miniature opera)

In late 17th-century French works composed in the Italian style, the phrase “Love Conquers All” might sound like a cliché—yet it expresses a value that remains relevant today. With these two miniature Italian pastoral operas, Charpentier genuinely challenged the conservative French tastes of his era. It seems that when national pride is at stake, even love cannot forgive everything.

In contrast, the Portuguese composer Carlos de Seixas offers light moments of respite, softening the tension and balancing the excitement.

Presented in collaboration with the Embassy of Portugal in Israel.
