Musical Director: Ilan Smilan

Hoodna Orchestra is a 12-member orchestra that plays original works inspired generally by East African music and particularly by Ethiopian music. The orchestra was formed in 2012 and is directed by the composer, Ilan Smilan. During 2013-2015, the orchestra performed at many festivals and on many stages around the country. The orchestra's mother base is in south Tel Aviv, and the cultural environment in which the musicians work and live greatly influences the creative process.

Exposure to Ethiopian, Eritrean and Arabian music and culture, and exploring jazz in its various branches have created a unique and original combination that makes Hoodna Orchestra one of the most intriguing and esteemed orchestras in the field of world music in Israel.
