Music from France, the Czech Republic and Lithuania
A special concert supported by the Embassy of Lithuania, performed by Meitar Ensemble and guest artists
In 2025, Lithuania celebrates a special anniversary – the 150th birthday of one of the greatest Lithuanian artists of all time, Mikalojus Konstantinas Čiurlionis. Lithuania presents the anniversary program, with nearly 150 events and initiatives awaiting audiences across Lithuania and in various countries worldwide including and Israel.
Born in 1875 Čiurlionis developed a distinctive style and, in just 36 years, created around 300 paintings and graphic works. His musical legacy includes approximately 400 compositions, revealing a path from romantic expression toward the most innovative trends of his time. He also left behind literary texts, poetry, and essays, and experimented with artistic photography – one of the newest media of that era. Čiurlionis was also engaged in civic life, and his surviving letters offer reflections that continue to inspire today. His interests extended beyond art to geology, chemistry, physics, astronomy, history, philosophy, religion, mythology, and more. Undoubtedly, he embodied immense talent, powerful imagination, and a deep passion for knowledge.
Also featured in the concert are two masterpieces from the early 20th century: Maurice Ravel’s famous suite Mother Goose, inspired by the fantasy world of children’s fairy tales; and alongside it, the original and thrilling music for the ballet La Revue de Cuisine by Bohuslav Martinů, depicting a lively and humorous plot starring kitchen utensils that come to life.
