In Gon Halevi’s unique musical language, the music ranges from a concerto for piano, choir, and Leah.

Joining him onstage is an ensemble of five singer-actresses.

This is Gon Halevi’s fifth project to premiere at Studio Annette. It was made possible through the generous support of the Yehoshua Rabinovich Foundation for the Arts, Tel Aviv (R.A.).

During the 16th and 17th centuries, European settlers in the Americas maintained a rich cultural life largely built on the music they brought from the Old World. Yet, contact with local cultures gradually transformed it. Missionaries incorporated indigenous elements into sacred music to connect with local populations, while native-born American composers—descendants of settlers, indigenous peoples, and mixed communities—created a new music blending European and local traditions. Before long, these new sounds began echoing back in Europe as well.

In this program, the Ensemble Mezzo, alongside guest musicians, presents a joyful and rhythmically vibrant journey spanning the Renaissance and Baroque eras across Europe and Latin America, alongside 20th-century South American songs: love and drinking songs, hymns, and folk tunes, set alongside sweeping dances.
